Some real positives but too drawn out and repetitive.

Dreams inside the Witch House totally appealed to me with its classic pixel art style and subtly eerie atmosphere.

While I usually dislike RPG elements in point and click adventures, they were kept quite simple here and added an extra layer to the game, helping me feel immersed in the protagonist’s new life as a student. At least in the beginning. However, as the game went on, these features became repetitive, laborious and tedious, taking me back to the same places, through the same animations and dialogue over and over again.

What makes it worse is that the story takes too long to unfold and the game begins to languish. What’s more, I found the big events rather anti-climactic, cheapened by cliches and tentacled monsters.

There are some satisfying and logical puzzles to solve and I enjoyed them, but some of those can get repetitive or just too academic for my enjoyment.

Dreams inside the Witch House had a lot of promise, but for me the initial novelty wore off after a few hours of play and I lost all interest in seeing it through to its conclusion.

Admittedly, I’m not a fan of H.G Lovecraft and the Cthulu series, nor a fan of RPGs, so I’m not the ideal audience for this game. Fans of the genre stand to appreciate it a lot more.
